CL talks image, Hallyu, and being an Asian role model with “Complex Magazine”

In preparation for her highly anticipated debut in the US, CL has been featured in an interview for the latest issue of Complex Magazine.

In an article posted on February 17th for the March issue of Complex Magazine, CL talks about her famous associations, keeping her own style, and being a role model for Asians in America.

CL has partnered with Scooter Braun, the man responsible for introducing Justin Bieber to the music scene and working with PSY in the U.S, for her upcoming U.S debut. In the interview, CL talks about how Braun is dedicated to conserving her token style that’s already recognized around Asia and not trying to sexualize her image just to appeal to an American market. “I want to represent Asian women in the right way,” CL says. “He wants to support that.”

Complex asks CL about the growing popularity of Korean culture in the U.S, making it the perfect time for her to try and breakthrough as an artist in that market. “Right,” she says, “There are so many Korean people here—and Chinese and Japanese—but they don’t have one pop artist that they can look up to. That’s kind of sad. I wish I could be that person for them to be proud of.”

The magazine also brings up the rumors that CL’s solo debut means the end is imminent for 2NE1, but CL reassures fans by saying, “That’s not true! We just finished our tour and everybody gets to take a break now. It’s just I don’t get a break. [Laughs.]”
