There have been many fake rumors in K-Pop, as some of them nearly ended the careers of certain idols. There have also been some straight-up crazy rumors, to the point where the rumor is a little humourous. Here are a few of the craziest rumors spread in K-Pop, which all ended up being false.
1. Solar (MAMAMOO) being a North Korean defector
During MAMAMOO’s earlier days, there were no photos found of Solar pre-debut. Some fans joked that this was because Solar was a North Korean defector. Once MAMAMOO grew in popularity, some people started believing these joking posts. Solar and her friends soon had to release some pre-debut photos to get rid of this ridiculous rumor.
2. Somi being the 10’th member of TWICE
After Somi’s success with I.O.I, some people assumed that she would be joining TWICE after I.O.I disbanded. At the time, Somi was still under JYP Entertainment, so many netizens tried gathering evidence to prove this rumor. One piece of “evidence” was one of the songs on TWICE’s album being called “1 to 10”, despite TWICE having 9 members.
Also, the music video for “TT” ends with a knock on the door and a mysterious ending message. Many assumed that the person knocking was Somi.
All this ended up being false as the knock on the door was just Park Jin Young. Somi also eventually left JYP Entertainment and signed with The Black Label.
3. Yoona (Girls’ Generation) dating PSY
In 2012, there were rumors that Yoona was in a relationship with PSY, which would have been huge as PSY was already married.
Yoona soon ended the rumors and stated that the person in question was a cameraman who happened to resemble PSY.
4. Lee Min Ho dating Taylor Swift
Lee Min Ho might not be a K-Pop idol, but he has been involved in one of the strangest dating rumors. Back in 2016, there was a rumor that Lee Min Ho and Taylor Swift were in a relationship. Lee Min Ho’s agency quickly made a statement on how the rumors were false, and they even laughed due to how absurd they were.
5. Mei Qi and Xuan Yi (Cosmic Girls) being a couple
This wasn’t so much a rumor but was a hilarious joke that spread like wildfire. A fan had joked in the past that these two got married and were a billionaire lesbian couple.

Bonus: Changmin (TVXQ) & Victoria [f(x)]
These two got caught up in dating rumors when Victoria posted a photo, and some netizens spotted Changmin’s reflection in a spoon.
Many were amazed as to how people were even able to spot Changmin. SM Entertainment then had to release a statement regarding the rumors.
“The reflection of the man is indeed Changmin. However, it wasn’t just them two having a meal.
Choreographer Shim Jae Won and other staff members also ate with them. Their dating relationship is just a suspicion raised from a simple incident.”
