7 Billboard Achievements BTS Scored In “Map Of The Soul: 7″‘s 1st Week—Including #1 Album!

“Map of the Soul: 7” just debuted at #1 on Billboard!

The chart updates are in, revealing that BTS has scored a highly coveted Billboard #1 with Map of the Soul: 7! But that’s not the only achievement the group has on Billboard this week. Read on to find out just how impressive this album’s chart debut is.

1. #1 Album on Billboard 200

First and foremost, ARMYs are rejoicing after the announcement that Map of the Soul: 7 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart! The album tops the  list with 422,000 units—of which 347,000 (82%) are album sales. The other units are made up of individual song downloads and streams on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

2. Fourth #1 Album

Of course, this isn’t BTS’s first #1 album on Billboard—it’s actually their fourth. The group’s first #1 was Love Yourself: Tear, which topped the chart in June 2018. Love Yourself: Answer followed in September the same year, then Map of the Soul: Persona reached #1 in April 2019. This means BTS has scored 4 #1s in just 1 year and 9 months. No group has done this as fast as BTS since The Beatles, who reached four #1s in 1 year and 5 months.

3. 10th Non-English #1 on Billboard

Another impressive feat is how BTS continuously tops the Billboard 200, a U.S. chart, despite singing mostly in Korean. Map of the Soul: 7 is only the 10th mostly non-English album to ever reach #1 on Billboard. Aside from BTS’s albums, other artists to make the list include SuperM and Selena.

4. Biggest Week of 2020

Earning 422,000 album units is no small feat. In fact, the figure gives Map of the Soul: 7 the biggest sales week of any album released this year. No artist has racked up this many units since Harry Styles released Fine Line last year.

5. Biggest Sales Week of 2020

With 347,000 album copies sold, BTS also has the biggest sales week in 2020. Again, Harry Styles’ Fine Line was the last album to sell more than Map of the Soul: 7. What makes this even more impressive is that BTS didn’t use any concert ticket or merchandise bundles to sell albums—something even Harry Styles did. Physicals made up 95% of the sales (330,000).

6. Biggest Group Week in 4 Years

Alongside 7, 4 seems to be another magic number for this BTS comeback. Not only is Map of the Soul: 7 the group’s fourth Billboard #1 album, this is also the biggest week for a group in 4 years. The last group to top 422,000 units in a week was One Direction in 2015.

7. BTS’s Biggest Week to Date

And, of course, BTS isn’t just doing great in comparison to other groups—they’re also doing great in comparison to their own past. This is BTS’s biggest week to date, almost doubling Map of the Soul: Persona’s 230,000 units. Love Yourself: Answer debuted with 185,000 units, while Love Yourself: Tear achieved 131,000 units in one week.
