She promised to educate herself!

After the release of BLACKPINK Lisa‘s debut solo track, “LALISA,” the idol also released a performance video for B-Side “MONEY.” After the video was released, fans raised their concerns on alleged cultural appropriation about Lisa’s hairstyle, which were box braids.

After the video was released, Lisa held a fansign call and one fan read out a letter discussing the topic with her. Despite the sensitive topic, Lisa gave her full attention and even asked staff members to extend the fansign meeting to six minutes, compared to the usual 90 seconds, to listen to the fan.

After the fan read the letter, Lisa expressed how sorry she was about the topic and that never meant to cause any offense.

I didn’t know… like, I didn’t have bad intentions. I thought that the hairstyle is very cool. But I feel so bad, and it’s like, I’m very sorry someone got hurt from that.

The fan then explained that they didn’t want to make Lisa feel bad, but the fan whose letter they read just wanted to make her aware of the issue. Lisa then added that she was going to make sure that everything was double-checked with staff and ensure to be extra careful from now on.

Lisa then went on to thank the fan for bringing it up with her saying and how sorry she was, adding, “I’m so sorry, please tell all your friends, I didn’t have any bad intentions.”

When the video was released, fans noted how emotional Lisa seemed to be and that she was genuinely sorry for causing any offense. They also praised her for ensuring that the fan had enough time to read the letter to understand the issue thoroughly.
