Officials Reply To Civil Complaint About Fans’ Advertisements For BLACKPINK’s Jisoo And Her Upcoming Drama, “Snowdrop”

Here’s what they said.

It was previously reported that a group of BLACKPINK Jisoo‘s fans had set up a series of subway station advertisements for her upcoming drama, Snowdrop. A group of disgruntled civilians had filed a civil complaint to take down the posters.

Many Koreans are against the drama as they feel that it potentially will distort the portrayal of history. The topic is also a very sensitive one about the democratic movement and riots, as well as the issue of North Korean spies, that many feel should not be romanticized. The fanbase, Jisoonly Vietnam, had announced that the project would be postponed. However, it seemed that they had managed to air the advertisements for a few days between November 25, 2021 and November 29, 2021 before it was announced to be postponed.

A civilian who had filed a complaint received a response from an official which they uploaded to a community site. The official claims that the advertisements itself do not contain any information that can be considered a distortion of history and hence, they would not be able to do anything about it.

Hello valued customer. Your civil complaint was examined and the results are as follows. Firstly, we are sorry about the discomfort you experienced while using the metro. Regarding what you have mentioned, we understand that you asked for the Snowdrop advertisements be stopped as it is a drama that distorts history. After examining what you said, this is our opinion. The advertisements were in accordance with the rules governing outdoor or public building advertisements, and it was approved after being considered as a commercial advertisement. We hope that you can understand that there is no content displayed on the advertisement itself that can be used to call for it to be stopped. Once more, while we are sorry that the advertisement caused you to feel discomfort, and we will proceed with more caution regarding adverts. In the future, if there are more things you are curious about, if you contact the advertising team, they will address your queries happily. Thank you for your interest and please stay safe in the pandemic. Thank you.
