Jung Eunji Reveals The One And Only Reason Apink Extended Their Contract With The Same Agency

It had nothing to do with money or conditions.

On a recent episode of KBS Joy’s Ask Anything, Apink‘s Eunji and Hayoung opened up about their dilemma with the end of their current contract fast approaching.

Apink signed a 7-year contract with Play M Entertainment and then resigned for a 3-year extension.

But contrary to common belief, Apink didn’t extend their contract with Play M Entertainment for money or conditions.

They did it solely for one reason, and Eunji and Hayoung revealed it on the show.

The truth is, it wasn’t for money or conditions. We did it for Apink’s name. If we go to another agency, we can’t use that name anymore.

— Eunji and Hayoung

The cast of the show sympathized with this revelation and even compared to the boy group, Highlight, who had to change their name from Beast when they changed labels.

I don’t even know why the agencies keep the names. Like, what are they going to do with it?

But whether or not Apink will have to change names or not all they care about going forward is one thing.

To stay together.

Many people talk about the 7-year curse with girl groups, but we’ve passed that. Now, we just want to know what we can to do stay together for the long-run.

— Eunji and Hayoung

Apink debuted back in 2011 and their extended contract with Play M Entertainment is set to expire in April 2021.

Only time will tell whether or not Apink will resign with the same agency, but what fans know for certain is that Apink does not plan on disbanding any time soon.
