Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon Reveals The Reason Why She Doesn’t Have SM Entertainment Stocks

Her answer is surprisingly innocent.

Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon recently made her solo comeback with “Second” and as a part of her promotions, she has been appearing on different talk shows. She showed off her variety program abilities with her most recent appearance on the YouTube talk show Shaded Home, and it was during her time on the program that she made a few “complaints” about her label.

It all began when television personality Kim Jong Min made a comment regarding SM Entertainment. He shared that he thought all SM Entertainment artists were given shares of the company stocks. Hyoyeon acknowledged that this was a true statement, but she revealed the reason why she no longer has any in her possession.

We all had them, we all did. But you know, I didn’t know much about it so if the value increased a tiny bit, I sold it all.

— Hyoyeon

Kim Jong Min continued to fuel his curiosity by asking the Girls’ Generation member, “how much were they worth back then?” After thinking about the question for some time, Hyoyeon didn’t seem to remember because she responded with “hmm…it was 5 years ago?”

The television personality was quick to have his show’s staff look up the price of SM Entertainment’s stock 5 years ago. After a quick internet search, they were able to find out that the label’s stocks were worth ₩25,000 KRW (about $21.30 USD) each.

Following the search, Hyoyeon, who previously stated that she didn’t know how stocks worked, couldn’t help but ask about her agency’s stocks.

Did the value decrease recently?

Her question shocked Kim Jong Min, who couldn’t help but outwardly verbalize his surprise.

What? She doesn’t know?

— Hyoyeon

So naturally, they conducted another quick internet search, which showed an almost 3 times increase from when Hyoyeon last had her stocks! The current value of an SM Entertainment stock is priced at ₩72,800 KRW (about $62.20 USD), which is an increase of approximately 2.7 times from 5 years ago.

To this information, Hyoyeon jokingly shared her frustrations about her company and their lack of education regarding stocks.

I am an artist under SM Entertainment, but how come they don’t teach me these things?!

— Hyoyeon

Honestly, that’s a valid question Hyoyeon! You can check out the girl group member’s adorable “complaint” down below.
