The list of second-generation K-Pop groups still actively promoting seems to get smaller each year. This makes feats like reuniting after a five-year hiatus even more impressive, and Girls’ Generation did just that.

When speaking with Billboard about their 15th anniversary and special comeback, the group opened up on how they felt reuniting and the key to the group’s longevity.

Leader Taeyeon recognized that the group was in a desirable position, having had an extremely successful group career before the members embarked on equally successful solo careers. While members pursuing individual activities have led to rifts and disbandments in other groups, Taeyeon revealed why it worked well for them.

…it’s really important for the group to have consistent communication and discussions about their direction, and their goals and purpose.

Taeyeon attributes the key to their long-lasting career being the love and support from their fans and the group’s close friendship.

I believe that our heart is always in the same place. Even if we’re making solo music or pursuing our careers as actresses, we always miss each other, and we always think of each other.

—Taeyeon

When asked how it felt working as a group again for the first time in five years, Seohyun shared it was a moment the group had all been “waiting for.” Taeyeon clarified that although they hadn’t promoted together in a while, the group was still very much in touch with each other.

…whenever the members have a funny story or an account to share with the group, we always message our group chat and share with the entire team.

When speaking about the future, the members are confident they’ll remain just as close and hope they stay as energetic and fun when they reach their 20th anniversary.

Even when we reach our 20th anniversary, I feel our members will still remain the same. We’ll all be doing well in our own fields, and when we come together then as well, we’ll still be just as loud!
