Gong Yoo Expresses His Admiration For BTS And Why He Wants To Be Reborn As A Musician

“BTS is doing something that is just amazing.”

Gong Yoo revealed his thoughts about BTS for the first time, sharing he has admiration for their success, and he also talked about why he would rather be reborn as a singer.

The second episode of Lee Dong Wook Wants To Talk with Gong Yoo as a guest just aired, and here, Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook talked about the power of culture in Korea.

Gong Yoo first expressed his pride about Korean culture being recognized overseas, starting with Train to Busan being recognized at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

It was really cool to see our work created in Korea with our efforts being cheered on and recognized at Cannes, which is the home of movies. I felt proud to be a Korean actor.

He then went off on a bit of a tangent, mentioning BTS as another source of Korean culture being recognized overseas.

This may be a different genre, but I think BTS is doing something that is just amazing. They are enhancing the prestige of our nation.

I think these kinds of things are so unique, only culture can accomplish it. Without music, just how bleak would our world be?

— Gong Yoo

Finally he revealed the reason why he would prefer to be reborn as a musician instead of an actor.

If I was born again, I would want to become a musician.

Thinking about it, in a way, actors are tools used to express stories written by writers and directors for movies and dramas. If I was reborn, I would want to live my life, telling my own story as a musician, through music.

I am a fan of ballads, and artists like Yoo Jae Ha and Kim Dong Ryul.
