Netizens Criticize The Hair And Makeup Styling Of The IVE Members, And The Shop Owner Responds In Recent Broadcast

The owner broke down after months of criticism from netizens!

In the past, K-Pop has been dominated by the success of boy groups and male idols. Yet it seems to have changed as girl groups have recently taken over, particularly the fourth generation of K-Pop. Of the new hailing queens, one group that has always gained attention since debuting is IVE.

The group, under Starship Entertainment, immediately caught the attention and earned praise from netizens after debuting at the end of 2021. From their presence on stage, performance skills, and personality, the members have shined.

Yet, although the members have always been praised for their visuals, netizens have recently raised concerns about the styling of the group when it comes to their makeup and hair stylists.

In recent months, fans have been raising concerns about the quality of the group’s makeup and styling. For example, IVE’s Jang Wonyoung has always been praised for her light makeup and effortless visuals in photos.

Yet recent shots from the idol’s Instagram had netizens raising concerns after seeing Jang Wonyoung’s usual princess-like visuals being “overshadowed” due to a change in the style. In particular, netizens didn’t like how her eyebrows were being drawn on thicker.

Similarly, netizens shared the same concerns when IVE’s Yujin attended a recent Adidas event. While the idol’s visuals shined, her makeup seemed too minimal aside from the heavy eyebrows that were drawn on.

Even during the recent surprise live ahead of IVE’s appearance on Weekly Idol, netizens shared negative views on the styling of the members, whether it was the thick and “childlike” bangs on Rei and Liz, the basic styling and coloring of Leeseo, or the makeup on the members.

On social media, many fans shared their own examples of bad styling for the members, and the hashtags #아이브_샵_바꿔 (change shop for IVE), #스타쉽_아이브_샵_바꿔 (Starship change shop for IVE) started trending.

The posts trended on various Korean forums, and it seems as if the comments reached the stylist.

According to a Korean netizen, the owner of the shop went live on Instagram to address the concerns and hate she was receiving from fans. In the broadcast, netizens claimed the stylist got very emotional about the issues but emphasized that it wouldn’t change her path.

Look at this, she turned on Instagram live after being criticized and for IVE to change makeup shops. She apologized to the IVE members and said she’s never had a harder time in this industry in the twenty years she’s worked..but it was her first time to ever think about turning on Instagram live and thanked everyone for their kind words and decided not to waver and continue on her path.

When the tweet was shared, many netizens had mixed opinions. While some supported the stylist and criticized netizens for their harsh words towards her…

Others explained her actions towards IVE fans when sent criticism. According to many, she blocked fans and shouldn’t be defensive when criticized for not doing her job “properly.”

Although it might seem like a trivial topic to many, there are strict expectations for idols to look a certain way. Even though the eyebrow makeup and hair might not seem enough to impact the popularity of IVE, netizens think that a professional stylist should be able to take criticism and apply it to their work.
