He has a lot of ambition!

Popular actor Kim Young Dae recently sat down with The Star magazine where he discussed his true personality, his experience in his widely successful drama, The Penthouse, and more.

Unrelated to his drama, but in time for the upcoming special day, the actor started off his interview with a fun question asking what he wanted to receive for Valentine’s Day. He replied, “I’d like to be gifted cologne.”

Getting back on the topic of his career, In The Penthouse, Kim Young Dae played Joo Seok Hoon, the twin brother of Joo Seok-Kyung (played by Han Ji Hyun who will go to extreme lengths to protect her. He later develops an attraction towards Bae Ro Na (played by Kim Hyun Soo)

With each scene of the hit drama being so entertaining and eye-catching, picking one scene that sticks out more than others can be difficult; however, Kim Young Dae was able to pin-point which of The Penthouse scenes he found the most memorable.

There’s one scene in the final episode of Season 1 where Seok Hoon and Seok Kyung cry because their mother passed away. Because Seok Kyung was sobbing pitifully, I also felt really sad. I really empathized a lot with Seok Hoon in that scene.

Kim Young Dae then answered another fun question asking to choose between the characters, Joon Seok Kyung (his character’s twin in the drama) and Bae Ro Na (his love interest in the drama).

Kim Young Dae answered in the mind of his character:

Family? Or love? Personally, I think that Seok Hoon’s character would choose Ro Na. Although he has always felt like he needs to protect Seok Kyung, I think that the center of gravity in Seok Hoon’s life changed after the arrival of Ro Na’s character.

I worry about how I can make viewers relate to my character (in all of his projects) and also what kind of charms I can show. I’m working hard to improve and show more maturity as an actor. Even characters that seem similar to one another are certain to have different charms. I want to highlight those kinds of key points in detail.
