EXO And TWICE Both Have Made Incredible Milestones At The MAMAs That No One Else Has Beat

And these records might never be broken!

With the 2021 MAMAs quickly approaching, K-Pop fans are working hard to make sure their favorite artists receive a well-deserved award! Both older, more experienced artists as well as rookies are in the running for various categories, including the prestigious “Artist of the Year” and “Album of the Year” awards.

Now is also a good time to look back at groups who have won impressive music awards in the past, including two iconic groups who have achieved something at the MAMAs that no one else has before: EXO and TWICE.

Though EXO has only been nominated for the category of “Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10” so far for this year, their list of awards won at the MAMAs since their career began is impressive, to put it lightly. Since 2012, they’ve been nominated for over 40 different awards and have won 16 of them.

But that’s not what sets them apart from everyone else. What they’ve accomplished that no one else has is that they’ve won “Album of the Year” five times — all consecutively, from 2013 until 2017!

In 2013, the award went to their XOXO album, and was their second win at the MAMAs ever! In 2014 it went to Overdose, in 2015 it was Exodus, in 2016 the award went to Ex’Act, and in 2017 it went to The War.

It just goes to show what a powerhouse that EXO has been in the K-Pop industry, and though they’ve been focusing more on their individual careers in recent years, they still have a lot to be proud of as a group!

TWICE also has a record made in the MAMAs history that’s similar to EXO’s. Since their career began in 2015, they’ve also been nominated over 40 times for the awards show, and have won 16 of them.

What sets them apart, however, is the record they’ve made by winning “Song of the Year” three times in a row, which hasn’t been accomplished by any other female artist!

They first won the award in 2016 with “Cheer Up”, which is unsurprising, given how loved that song was (and still is)! In 2017 the award went to “Signal”, and in 2018 the winner was “What Is Love?”.

Both of these groups have plenty to be proud of, and it will be interesting to see what they accomplish at this year’s MAMAs too!
