GFRIEND’s New Comeback Will Not Be Seen On MBC’s “Music Core” After Becoming A Subsidiary Of Big Hit Entertainment

They will not perform on MBC.

Girl group GFRIEND released their ninth EP Song of the Sirens on July 13, making it their first comeback in five months since their Labyrinth EP this past February. This is the second album release from the group since their agency Source Music was acquired by Big Hit Entertainment.

Their new comeback with “Apple” will unfortunately not be seen on MBC’s Music Core.

Back in July 2019, Big Hit Entertainment acquired Source Music, making it a subsidiary of Big Hit Entertainment.

Big Hit is currently not appearing on any MBC programs as of last year. This occurred after BTS wasn’t able to make it to the 2018 MBC Gayo Daejejeon due to their overseas schedule. The misunderstanding from that event still hasn’t been cleared up, causing Big Hit artists to not appear on MBC.

Due to this event, GFRIEND, who is now a subsidiary of Big Hit, were not able to appear in the lineup at the 2019 MBC Gayo Daejejun. Other agencies such as Pledis Entertainment, who houses SEVENTEEN, were also acquired by Big Hit and not able to perform on Music Core.

It is for the same reason that GFRIEND will not be performing their new track on Music Core.

GFRIEND held a showcase the day of their new release through Big Hit’s YouTube channel and gave a more in-depth look into the new album.

On the other hand, GFRIEND will be performing “Apple” for the first time through Mnet’s M Countdown on July 16.
