Recently on an online forum, a netizen made a post about female idol rappers that has K-Pop fans fuming, and understandably so.
This netizen claimed that, though there are many female idols who can rap, there are only a few — in fact, just 2 — that actually deserve the title of being a “true” rapper.
While there can be some conflict over what a “true” rapper really is, it’s hard to fathom that someone might think that out of all the main & lead rappers of girl groups who have years of experience, only two are “skilled” enough to be called one.
The two idols that they claimed are “true” rappers are (G)I-DLE‘s Soyeon and EXID‘s LE. There’s no denying that both of these ladies are immensely talented: Soyeon gained attention for her time on the third season of Unpretty Rapstar, where she placed third overall, and LE used to be in the underground rap scene under the name “Elly” before she joined EXID.
Fans argued, however, that there are many other idols who went on to have solo careers as rappers that prove they are skilled enough in the art to earn the “true” rapper title. Idols like CL, Jessi, HyunA, Cheetah, and others would seem impossible not to deserve the reputation they have for their abilities!
Here are some comments left by netizens on the online post.
“Please stop making wars. Besides Soyeon, Kpop still has many female idols who deserve to be rappers.”
“If we distinguish between rappers and “rapping idols”, we can list real male rappers like MC Mong, Simon D, and Leesang. Meanwhile, the female side has Cheetah, Jessi, Giant Pink. The other 2 girls you mentioned are still just idols who hold the position of main rapper.”
“Oh so CL, Miryo and Jessi are all reciting poems.”
“Can we just get rid of the idea that underground rappers are the best?”
“Soyeon was never an underground rapper. Soyeon only participated in Unpretty Rapstar 3!”
Whatever your opinion is on the matter, there are many idols who have trained hard to be given their main or lead rapper title!
