TWICE Makes A Powerful Statement By Performing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” On Tour

TWICE has confirmed once and for all that they love ALL of their ONCE.

During the unit stages of TWICE‘s TWICELIGHTS tour in Seoul Mina, Jeongyeon, Nayeon, and Chaeyoung did a cover performance of Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way”.

The girls did an amazing job at covering the song, which has always been considered an anthem of inclusivity. The lyrics urge the listener that whether you’re “black, white, or beige,” “gay, straight, or bi” or anything else, love yourself because you were born that way.

No matter gay, straight or bi,

Lesbian, transgendered life

I’m on the right track, baby, I was born to survive

No matter black, white, or beige

Chola or orient-made

I’m on the right track, baby, I was born to be brave

– Lady Gaga “Born This Way”

For TWICE to cover this song made a huge statement in a conservative country and industry that prizes and prioritizes Korean beauty standards. ONCEs in the LGBTQ+ community were especially touched by this acknowledgement from TWICE when LGBTQ+ subjects have long been a taboo subject in the K-Pop industry and Korea as a whole. TWICE, however, have never shied away from the subject.

From Tzuyu, Sana & Dahyun‘s heart-stopping cover of Beyoncé‘s “Dance For You” and Jihyo and Momo‘s breathtaking cover of Taemin‘s “Goodbye” to this prejudice-shattering performance of “Born This Way” TWICELIGHTS is shaping up to be the tour to beat this summer.
